Positive trend in M2M communication continues

  • Market for IoT and M2M SIM cards on course for growth worldwide
  • Sales increase at wherever SIM GmbH in Q1/2022 by 51% compared to the same quarter of the previous year

Machine-to-machine (M2M) communication is playing an increasingly important role in the digitization of companies. This is supported by the current study "Global Cellular Machine-to-Machine (M2M) Modules Industry" by ReportLinker, according to which the M2M market for M2M modules will reach a volume of USD 4.5 billion worldwide by 2026. For 2020, the global market for M2M modules was still estimated at USD 2.9 billion.

wherever SIM GmbH is one of the winners of this development. In 2021, the Hamburg-based company sold 77% more M2M SIM cards than in the previous year. M2M SIM cards form the basis for the digitalization of industry and the Internet of Things (IoT). They enable the reliable wireless transmission of information between devices and machines via mobile communications in real time.

"Last year alone, we acquired over 200 new corporate customers," says Tim Müller, Managing Director of wherever SIM GmbH.

says Tim Müller, Managing Director of wherever SIM GmbH. Business customers worldwide rely on the M2M SIM cards as the basis for their IoT solutions. No matter where a device is located, thanks to roaming it is connected to the Internet at any location in the world via the strongest network. When a container on the high seas transmits its position data to the control center or a medical device in a hospital sounds an alarm, it is thanks to IoT and M2M communication.

"The e-mobility sector in particular is booming. We are experiencing rapid growth here: around 14%* of the M2M SIM cards installed in e-charging stations across Germany currently come from wherever SIM - and the trend is rising," Müller is pleased to report.

Operators and providers of e-mobility charging solutions who manage their charging infrastructure with M2M SIM cards benefit not only from flexible M2M tariffs, maximum network availability, but also from reliable transmission of billing as well as consumption data.

As a member of the Bundesverband eMobilität e.V. (BEM), wherever SIM is in contact with the association's members for the sustainable expansion of electromobility and supports pioneering mobility concepts with its connectivity expertise. M2M SIM cards from wherever SIM are also used in the fields of logistics, security technology, retail, smart farming and medical technology and ensure reliable data connections for IoT applications.
